Our church has reached out to a local church in Houston Texas and we are coming alongside them to help minister to the needs of their people and community. The church is River Pointe Church, and right now they are primarily providing meals for those affected by the hurricane, but soon they will begin to assist people as they rebuild their lives and community in the aftermath of the hurricane.
If you would like to help out, there are a few specific things you can do:
First – PRAY! The victims of the storm need prayer, and those serving them need prayer. We may not be able to be there physically, but we can pray and support those who are.
Second – GIVE. We are encouraging our people to pray and see what God may call them to give. There are a few specific places you can give and 100% of the money given will go directly to help people in Texas. We suggest considering these ministries
- Give directly to River Pointe Church
- Give through the North American Mission Board for the SBC – Note that this is one of the top relief organizations in the country and one of the quickest to respond to disasters around our nation and the globe. Since it is part of the SBC, all donations go directly to help those in need (as opposed to other organizations which have a significant overhead cost).
- Samaritan’s Purse is also a solid disaster relief organization, though they have about a 10% overhead cost (so 90 cents out of every dollar is going towards ministry).
